After several years of recruiting shortfalls, the U.S. military is now experiencing a surge in enlistment. The Army recently reached its annual recruitment goal months ahead of schedule, and the Air Force, Navy, Marine Corps, and Space Force have all reported stronger recruitment numbers in recent months.
To keep pace with the training infrastructure needed for this influx of new recruits, Panel Built, Inc., a manufacturer of modular structures, engineers custom prefabricated towers built to endure the most demanding climates. Their bolt-together structural steel tower systems are designed for quick deployment of diverse applications, including observation towers, rappel structures, and elevated range platforms.
Engineered for Observation and High-Load Tactical Training
Built for rapid installation, these military and tactical towers are configured to meet the precise environmental and functional demands of each site. Beyond standard observation and perimeter monitoring, Panel Built's heavy-duty steel structures are specifically designed to accommodate high-impact military and first responder training exercises that place repeated dynamic loads on the framework.
Depending on the operational application, these modular structures can be customized to include:
- Enclosed operator booths and climate-control/HVAC equipment
- Ballistic-rated materials for live-fire supervision environments
- Integrated anchor rings and fast-rope hatches for descent drills
- Covered observation decks and multi-level, switch-back stair systems engineered for heavy personnel loads
Military Tower Project Highlights
Panel Built is proud to have delivered a range of modular structures to military organizations across the globe. Recent proven installations include:
- Airfield Watchtower: Panel Built delivered an elevated watchtower to Patuxent River, Maryland that met strict visibility and weather-resistance requirements. The completed structure incorporated a 124-square-foot enclosure mounted on 12-foot steel columns. Engineers designed the system to withstand continuous wind loads up to 115 mph, complete with climate-control equipment and exterior aviation lighting for extended operational use.
- Live-Fire Range Tower: Installed along the California coastline, this 40-foot military range tower is used to supervise live-fire exercises. Because of the site's intense wind exposure and seismic conditions, the structure was engineered for Seismic 4 requirements and wind ratings exceeding 90 mph. Installation crews completed onsite erection in approximately two weeks using a prefabricated bolt-together steel framework.
- Rappel Tower: Designed for climbing drills and rope descent exercises, this massive 67-foot rappel training tower showcases the efficiency of offsite modular manufacturing. Crews assembled the upper section at ground level before crane-lifting it into position over the lower framework onsite. Because it was manufactured offsite, fabrication and foundation preparation occurred simultaneously, reducing installation timelines and limiting field labor.
Supporting Modern Military Readiness
As military organizations continue investing in personnel readiness and tactical training, the supporting infrastructure behind those operations remains equally important. From elevated observation posts to multi-level training towers, prefabricated structural steel systems provide facilities with durable, rapidly deployable platforms engineered for demanding operational environments.
