DemandQ Inc. today announced that its patented energy optimization software—previously available only as a cloud service—can now be installed and operated on an organization’s own systems. The self-hosted option is available to energy service providers, utilities, and enterprises that need to keep their data in-house.

DemandQ’s technology reduces electricity costs by intelligently managing when and how buildings use power, preventing the brief energy spikes that drive up monthly bills. The platform works with a building’s existing equipment and controls—no new hardware is required. Until now, accessing this capability meant sending operational data to DemandQ’s cloud. The self-hosted version removes that requirement, making the technology available to organizations in regulated industries where data must stay on-premises.

DemandQ’s software uses AI to predict energy demand, respond automatically when grid conditions or energy prices change, and optimize usage across multiple buildings simultaneously. The self-hosted version includes every feature available in the cloud product. Energy service providers can also offer the platform to their own customers under their own brand.

To lower the barrier to entry, DemandQ offers a free tier that handles demand response events—automated reductions in energy use when the grid is under stress. Organizations that want continuous, around-the-clock optimization can upgrade to IDO Enterprise, a licensed version with full API access and dedicated support.

The self-hosted option is designed for two audiences. Energy service companies, HVAC integrators, demand response providers, and utilities can use it to expand the services they offer their customers. At the same time, enterprises in healthcare, finance, government, and other regulated sectors can deploy it directly in their own facilities to cut energy costs without compromising their data policies.

The self-hosted version runs the same patented engine already used by DemandQ’s cloud customers. That technology has reduced energy demand by 8.2 percent for a national retailer—saving more than $3.1 million—cut monthly energy bills by over 10 percent for a major restaurant chain, and lowered energy costs by more than 11 percent for a nationwide bank. In every case, DemandQ reports there was no impact to building comfort and no upfront hardware cost.
