Dive Brief:
- JLL’s healthcare division is partnering with smart IoT device maker Hexmodal to automate compliance testing for healthcare facilities, the commercial real estate company announced Monday.
- The goal is to automate traditional manual testing processes by using Hexmodal’s smart life safety devices for continuous monitoring of safety equipment, including fire extinguishers, emergency lighting, exit signs, temperature monitors and leak detectors, JLL said. The partnership comes as healthcare organizations face updated standards by the Joint Commission, the nonprofit that oversees accreditation in the industry.
- “Healthcare organizations are seeking automation solutions that don’t require massive capital investment,” Carey Sealy, managing director of JLL Healthcare’s Advanced Technology Group Enterprise Services, said in a statement. “The … collaboration delivers technology-driven solutions that improve compliance outcomes while reducing operational costs.”
Dive Insight:
The Joint Commission accredits more than 23,000 U.S. healthcare organizations and programs. The majority of state governments recognize the organization’s accreditation as a condition for licensure for the receipt of Medicaid and Medicare reimbursements. In June, the Joint Commission announced it’s updating its standards, including those for life safety and environment of care, according to the American Society for Health Care Engineering.
The JLL-Hexmodal partnership aims to make meeting these new standards easier, Sealy said. “Healthcare organizations leveraging digital facility management compliance technologies with real-time regulatory updates and integrated training support will gain a significant competitive advantage in maintaining operational excellence and regulatory adherence,” she said.
With the partnership, JLL will be able to offer scalable inspection services that it believes can reduce field service labor costs while increasing compliance accuracy. The cloud-based platform generates automatic compliance reports, integrating with CMMS systems to create work orders when issues are detected.
In addition, JLL says, it’s building an integration between its technology platform and Hexmodal’s to provide a range of services, including asset and document management, space analysis, life safety assessment and compliance automation.
“Healthcare facilities teams are being asked to do more with fewer people, tighter budgets and increasing documentation requirements,” Christopher Hariz, co-founder of Hexmodal, said in a statement. “This partnership with JLL is about bringing low cost, easy-to-use technology to help facilities managers move away from manual, error-prone testing and paper-based records and toward continuous, verifiable compliance.”
